Chelsea will be open to offers for bad-boy striker Diego Costa in the upcoming January transfer window, if they can find a suitable replacement.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is furious with Costa's negative reaction after he was dropped from the Chelsea team for Sunday's game against Tottenham.

A sulking Costa barely warmed up when he was asked to by the Chelsea coaching staff and then threw his training vest in the direction of Mourinho when he returned to the bench.

The antics have put his future at the club in imminent doubt, with Mourinho offering few excuses for leaving out his lead striker after the game.

"If he wants to hurt me, it's not with a bib. I have a good relationship with him, no problems," Mourinho said after the 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

"I think Diego is very privileged because he was the last one to be [put] on the bench.

"Everybody was on the bench. The captain (John Terry) was on the bench. Ivanovic was on the bench. Cahill – the vice-captain of England was on the bench.

"Fabregas was on the bench. Pedro was on the bench. Hazard – player of the season – was on the bench. Oscar was on the bench. Everybody.

"So Diego is privileged I kept him in the team for all these matches and today we thought the best strategy to play was this one. We are happy with the decision."

Chelsea may struggle to find a lead striker to revive their season in the January transfer window, yet Costa's future at the club appears to be doomed after his disastrous slump in form over the last few months.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has been linked with a £30m move to Chelsea in the January transfer window, with the race to sign the Premier League's leading scorer hotting up.
